What to bring on a vacation?

It had been so long since we took a vacation without the kids, and honestly, I forgot what to pack. So here I am writing this from my beach front vacation, hoping that this list will help you remember what to bring on your next trip!

A book! The second day we laid out by the beach, I thought: man, I used to LOVE to read. Like actual fun books before undergrad and grad school came along. Thankfully, I was pleased to find that our resort had a collection of books left behind by other travelers. I read through a few, some of which were great, but I couldn’t help but kick myself, wishing that I would have selected a great book I had been dying to read before getting here.

A list of podcasts. Just in typing this, I realize that even without books, the new thing is podcasts. Thankfully this resort has WiFi so I might give some a listen! At home I don’t have much of a commute, so rarely get to listen to these. A few that have been on my list to listen to are: The Holderness Family, Former Lawyer, the Happy Lawyer Project, and Women in the Law OTR. Check them out!

WATER SHOES. The beach where we are at is seriously paradise but there are rocks! At this point in my life, I have zero tolerance for discomfort, even if it means enduring for a short while until you make it into one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. They aren’t the prettiest things on earth, but I’m sure Amazon has something good to offer.

Work-out clothes. I’ll admit. I packed these and it took me about 3 days to actually get myself to the gym. But it felt so good. Finally a opportunity to go work out without wondering who will take care of the kids. Some “me” time is always a necessary part of any vacation.

WiFi. Okay, so this one might be controversial. I know people say the best vacations are one in which you can truly “disconnect” but the last time I tried to go 7 days without checking and monitoring e-mails, I legit came home from vacation and felt like my Microsoft Outlook was going to be the death of me. For someone who is OCD about their inbox (like me), coming home to 500 e-mails which you have to sort and organize can literally kill you. Having WiFi helps you stay somewhat connected, even if it just means keeping your inbox in check.

That’s all I can think of for now… any must haves on vacation for you?
