Say what?

Okay, I’ve been wanting to do this one for a while. What are the craziest corporate sayings you have ever heard that took you a minute (or a Google search) to understand? Embarrassingly, these are mine:

10-4.” Sorry, what? 10am-4pm? #Confused. Apparently, “10-4” is “an affirmative signal: it means ‘OK.’” Well, I’ll be darned because the first time I heard that one was from a partner in a e-mail back to me. I was stumped.

“Putting out a fire.” Sorry, what? Your building is on fire? I’m confused. Legit, a client told me she had to “put out a few fires,” and I was so lost. Had myself really wondering if her building had fires and whether she needed help. Welp, apparently “putting out a fire,” just means you had to tend to office crises. News to me!

Those are the two ones that stumped me the hardest. What are ones you have heard that left you confused?
