“How do you do it all?”

This is often a question a lot of working moms get – how do we manage it all?

There are definitely articles that say “working women can have it all.” I’ve been at this for a few years, however, and I still haven’t figured that out yet.

So my answer is that “I don’t have it all.” I am a hot mess and I’m literally taking it one day at a time. But here are some tips that have helped me survive:

  1. Go to work to work. No more time to spend chatting by the printer or in the kitchen. Work hours are extremely precious because mornings and nights will be consumed by spending time with your children.
  2. Try to combine activities. One thing that really works for me is taking my girls in our Bob running stroller. I get a run in (the track by our house is a 3-mile loop), I get to chat with the girls about their day, and they are strapped in so can’t run around. Any time I go out for a jog to do this, it always feels like the most accomplished hour of the day.
  3. Ask for help if you need it. We’ve all been there. Boss is e-mailing while the toddler is having a meltdown. If you feel like it’d be helpful to get an evening babysitter, do it either until you feel like you’ve gotten things back under control, or continue with it if you feel it’s working well!

Surprisingly, those are the main things I can think of for now. I will be back though – updating this list as I think of more tips!
